Lone Peak Expedition

Summer is the only time of year when you can experience the Lone Peak Expedition. Ride the chair lifts halfway to the top of Lone Peak, an all-terrain vehicle for a ways and end by riding up on the Big Sky Tram. It's about 2.5 hours to get to the top and back- including plenty of time to explore once at the top. The tour guide will teach you all about the different mountain peaks that you can see from the top. You can even look down on the very exclusive and private Yellowstone Club from the top of Lone Peak. From the 11,166 foot summit on a clear day you will have the opportunity to see two national parks, three states, and the many mountain ranges surrounding Big Sky. The Lone Peak tour is only available in the summers because in the winter Lone Peak is completely covered in snow and is the toughest of ski slopes. In order to ski off of lone peak you need to register ahead of time for a very specific slot. That way if anything happens to you or if there is an avalanche of any sort people know where you are/were and can come and rescue you. While touring the slope in the summer you can see why there is so much risk involved. It's a sheer faced cliff where you're so high up that you're very open to the elements.
