Samdo

After breakfast one of our party returned to Katmandu by helicopter as he was suffering from a serious infection. Once the helicopter had left we set off up a wide valley once again following the Budhi Gandaki river to Samdo (3875m). We arrived in time for lunch. The lodge was very basic but the potatoes, cheese and Himalayan bread were very tasty. In the afternoon we climbed up to the lateral moraine of the retreating Sonam glacier. The village is only a days walk from the Tibetan border and Larkya bazar above the village was once a busy trading spot. Day 10 was another acclimatization day so we climbed up to the pray flags on the slope above the village. We can see down the Budhi Gandaki valley all the way to Himal Chuli. We relax on the sunny hillside surrounded by snowy peaks, listening to the prayer flags whispering into the wind and watching the vultures and eagles riding the thermals below us. We are definitely getting closer to heaven.

Día 9 y 10 de Samdo Después del desayuno, uno de nuestro grupo regresó a Katmandú en helicóptero ya que sufría una infección grave. Una vez que el helicóptero se había ido nos pusimos en marcha un amplio valle una vez más siguiendo el río Budhi Gandaki a Samdo (3875m). Llegamos a tiempo para el almuerzo. El alojamiento era muy básico, pero las patatas, el queso y el pan del Himalaya eran muy sabrosos. Por la tarde subimos a la morrena lateral del glaciar Sonam en retirada. El pueblo está a solo un día a pie de la frontera tibetana y Larkya Bazar por encima del pueblo fue una vez un lugar de comercio ocupado. El día 10 fue otro día de aclimatación, así que subimos a las banderas de oración en la ladera sobre el pueblo. Podemos ver el valle de Budhi Gandaki hasta Himal Chuli. Nos relajamos en la ladera soleada rodeada de picos nevados, escuchando las banderas de oración susurrando al viento y mirando a los buitres y águilas cabalgando sobre las corrientes térmicas debajo de nosotros. Definitivamente nos estamos acercando al cielo.
